As with many churches in the North of Scotland, this privately owned church on Eriboll Estate boasts both a stunning location and spectacular views with the deep water sea loch and the dramatic wild heather covered hill behind.
Built in 1804 it retains most of it's original features. It has stepped pews and a lairds' seat where the Highland Laird sat and watched over the services and congregation.
Steeped in local history, having doubled as the mission schoolhouse for the children on the estate, the wooden pews are inscribed with many local names and lesson workings. The graveyard is two miles away over "the hill" facing South so the warmth of the sun touches the souls within.
Fully lined in original, traditional wooden panelling, the church is romantically lit by candles providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Following years of neglect the church was restored by the current owners to celebrate their own marriage and has since hosted a number of weddings, christenings and celebrations. The church can comfortably seat up to 90 people on hardbacked wooden pews but is at its best with fewer. The accoustics are excellent.
The church is a venue for a Candlelit Christmas Service and was used for a national celebration for the lives of the sailors of HMS Hood and others who famously trained in Loch Eriboll prior to sailing off to fight in The Second World War. It has also featured in a number of films made in the area such at ITV's Sea of Souls.
